THE PROJECT

Miss World Fiji Beauty Contest is the initiative of using the passion and experience I obtained in the International Fashion and Beauty Industry.

The contest is aimed at discovering young Fijian talent to represent our Island nation on the global stage of Miss World, be a spokesperson for the charity work in which the contest will align to, become an ambassador for Fiji and the voice of our nation in promoting our Countries finer tourism destinations, rich culture, dance, food, various ethnicities and bring back to life our slogan ‘Fiji, the way the World should be’.

Apart from being a beauty contest, the aim is to creating a platform for young outgoing and career driven Fijian women, that will be able to continue building relationships between the wider communities, charitable organizations and our people and adhere to the logo of Miss World – ‘Beauty with a Purpose’.

During the build up to the finals night of the contest, various awareness programs including the highlighting of the importance of Education, Religion, Culture and Medical awareness such as the discussions of HIV/Aids and Mental Health issues will be addressed by the entrants and the organizing committee with the use of local Fijian and International Media outlets that will provide coverage for the contest.

THE PAGEANT

In the year preceding the global finals, each delegate must win her national title or a specially designated Miss World preliminary.

Miss World’s national preliminaries are conducted by their licence holder’s that hold the franchise to use the “Miss World” name in their country.

The annual final is typically a month long event, with several preliminary galas, dinners, balls and activities, culminating in a globally telecast final show in which the field is narrowed to between 15-20 delegates.

MISS WORLD

The Miss World Pageant is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant and was created by Mr Eric Morley in 1951. Since his death in 2000, his wife – Mrs Julia Morley, co-chairs the pageant.

Miss World alongside its rivals Miss Universe and Miss Earth is the most publicized contest in the world with an estimate of over 30 Million Viewers.

The Miss World Organization owns and manages the annual Miss World finals, a competition that has grown into one of the World’s biggest.

Since it’s launch in 1951, the Miss World organization has raised more than 250 million pounds for children’s charities.

Miss World is franchised in more than 100 countries.

Miss World limited is a privately held firm and thus figures for its earnings, expenses and charitable contributions are not publicly available.

Aside from raising millions of pounds for charities around the globe under the banner of its ‘ Beauty with a purpose ” programme, Miss World is also credited with directly influencing a dramatic increase in tourism in Sanya, China host city of the Miss World finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2010.

THE NEED

Fiji is fast becoming a more influential International Tourism and Trade provider with its location as being the hub of the American and Oceanic route of both shipping and flight path- ways.

The global community uses various means of promoting its uniqueness and countries such as Guam, Hawaii, Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Northern Mariana Islands, Tonga and Samoa make use of the platform of beauty contests to drive their recognitions and partake in contests such as Miss World and Miss Earth to help with gaining more recognition and interests from the outside world.

With the booming economy and current interests in Fiji’s Tourism sector, a contest such as Miss Fiji and our participation at Miss World finals will provide more exposure to over 100 countries with the hope of attracting more International visitors from other parts of the world to our shores.

As Fiji continues to grow and continues to develop as a Pacific Island leader, participation at the leading global contest will be our stepping-stone to further advancing our recognition on the international stage.

The motto of Miss Worlds ‘beauty with a purpose’ also cements Fiji’s strong foundation with engaging our young female leaders to bettering themselves and providing more opportunities in terms of career choices, educational insights into topics such as global warming, stigma related medical issues, poverty and great ambassadorship roles for our nation.

ANDHY BLAKE

Labasa born and raised, before completing education at Holy Trinity Anglican School, Suva Grammar School and Fiji Institute of Technology, Andhy embarked on an International career pursuing the field of Fashion, Beauty and Arts.

He has achieved many roles:

It is with reference to a wise saying that I base my strong work ethics on to helping me achieve success and praise from the many I have engaged with on numerous projects.

I am determined to showcasing Fiji on the World stage by showcasing my mentorship abilities to the successor of the Miss World Fiji crown. This I have already proven with coaching two delegates for the Miss World New Zealand crown that have won double victories and have been New Zealand ambassadors on the World stage.

I strongly believe that with setting up this proposed initiative, Fiji will benefit further from the global exposurethat surrounds the Miss World brand.

My passion to succeeding as an ambassador for Fiji –my country of birth has provided me with the drive to setting up this event and will endeavour to pass on the tools of knowledge I gained in my 10 years of international experience.

Miss World Fiji will be an annual event and will be aimed at working alongside notable charity organizations over the duration of one year – the yearly long reign of Miss World Fiji and her choice of charity she chooses to work with.

This investment will open the doors to the wider international community in terms of our tourism market as well as creating and instilling hope, inspiring young women and giving our fellow countryman faith in taking it upon themselves to heading out and tackling the World stage –be it beauty contests, fashion, sports, professional careers and bring back to life our famous motto “Fiji the way the World should be”.
